July 25, 2007 Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Achieve Real Time Savings Following Derceto Implementation

WSSC Office
WSSC (Maryland USA) utilize the Derceto software to control pump scheduling for the distribution of up to 230 MGD of water to more than 1.7 million people daily. During the first nine months of Derceto operation, startimg August 2006, Derceto has saved WSSC over $480,000 in electricity purchasing costs, and is currently exceeding savings of $120,000 per month. WSSC purchases most of the energy used for water distribution on the real time PJM electricity market. The savings Derceto is achieving are in addition to those already realised by WSSCs operations and energy management personnel and have been made possible through commitment and team work by all involved. In addition to dollar savings Derceto has been accredited with helping to identify physical restrictions in the Colesville and Bowie pressure zone which were causing pressure spikes and inconsistent flows. A number of closed 20, 16, 12 and 10 inch valves and a section of 20" pipeline that had not been completed were identified by the WSSC planning department in conjunction with the information from Derceto engineers. "Without Derceto we would not have found these problems" said Karen Wright, Group Leader Systems Control Group, WSSC.
