March 08, 2007 Aguas do Cavado (Portugal) sign up to Phase 1 study

Derceto Ltd is excited to announce the first project in Portugal. The multi-municipal water supply system in Aguas do Cavado produces 180 MLD from the river Cavado and delivers to 600,000 inhabitants. It supplies eight northern Portuguese towns (Barcelos, Esposende, Maia, Povoa de Varzim, Santo Tirso, Trofa, Vila do Conde and Vila Nova de Famalicao). This state of the art water production and distribution system features fully automatic treatment facilities and fibre-optic links to all remote facilities

In a recent study of pump scheduling optimization software researchers compared 6 leading algorithms on a system with a single tank and 5 pumps. A 16 CPU super computer solved this in times ranging from 21 to 118 seconds. Aquadapt solves systems with 88 pumps and 29 storage tanks in 53 seconds with a single CPU on a standard office computer and a system with 223 pumps in under 3 minutes.
