EBMUD was Derceto's first major implementation in North America. Derceto was awarded the contract in October 2003 and a Detailed Design study was completed by December 2003. Implementation began in late July 2004 over a pilot area of EBMUD's system. The area under Aquadapt software control is 20% of their entire system, but represents 35% of their annual electricity costs.
During three years of operation, Aquadapt software has saved EBMUD 12.7% of its electricity costs, equalling over $1.1M. Post-implementation analysis has also shown that the Aquadapt system has also improved efficiency; using 6.1% less kWh to pump the same volume of water. Aquadapt software does this by automatically taking into account all the hydraulics, looking at all other pump stations, the impact on pipeline and zone pressures and then choosing the most efficient time to run.

In the Aquadapt system's first year of operation it saved EBMUD 12.5% of its electricity costs, equaling $370,000. Post-implementation analysis has also shown that Aquadapt software also improved efficiency; using 14% less kWh to pump the same volume of water. Aquadapt software does this by automatically taking into account all the hydraulics, looking at all other pump stations, the impact on pipeline and zone pressures and then choosing the most efficient time to run. In EBMUD's case this 14% energy efficiency improvement is on top of the costs savings derived from moving pumping to off-peak tariff bands.
This was the first implementation of Derceto Aquadapt 4.0 software featuring a raft of new modules and a major revision to convert the entire application to a database driven format.
A joint paper on the project was presented at the 2005 AWWA California/Nevada section Spring and Fall conferences and at the 2005 AWWA National conference in San Francisco.

EBMUD have also written about the project in their "Pipeline" newsletter.

At the 2002 ACENZ* Awards Derceto took one of the two gold awards for the most outstanding projects of 2002.
