Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, Laurel, MD

WSSC is by far the largest utility Derceto has worked with to date and is one of the 10 largest utilities in the USA, servicing over 1.6 million people. Aquadapt software has been installed to control over 80 pumps, 25 pressure reducing valves and two huge water filtration plants, currently producing an average of 167 million gallons of drinking water per day! Their annual energy bill tops $7.1million and their Aquadapt system is projected to cut this cost by over $600,000 per year.

During the design and analysis process Aquadapt software was used to assist WSSC in assessing the impact various energy purchasing strategies would have on future energy costs, including a forage into the real time market. The Aquadapt system’s analysis was influential in WSSC's decision to enter the PJM real time price market. By implementing Aquadapt software in conjunction with the PJM market WSSC will substantially reduce their energy costs. The Aquadapt system was implemented in March 2006 and initial analysis shows positive savings. Derceto, Inc. did the initial feasibility and detailed design reports in 2003 through a contract with Constellation Energy Project Services. CEPS had been contracted to WSSC to offer energy efficient processes and equipment.

At the 2002 ACENZ* Awards Derceto took one of the two gold awards for the most outstanding projects of 2002.
