Eastern Municipal Water District Stage 2, Perris Valley, CA

Moreno Valley
Following the very successful Stage 1 Moreno Valley project Eastern Municipal Water District awarded Derceto the second stage roll-out of Aquadapt in December 2006. The extended system will cover almost the entire distribution system.  With more than 160 additional pumps (making over 200 in total)  this is the largest Aquadapt system to date.  On site implementation commenced in late July 2007 and was complete in September 2007. It is also the first Aquadapt 5.0 system installed in the world.

Perris Valley, home of EMWD

EMWD's system services a population of 570,000 people in Southern California with Derceto's Aquadapt software initially being implemented in the Moreno Valley area of the system. This area uses between 50-60% of EMWD's entire electricity costs and uses the largest portion of Time-of-Use (TOU) charges. Aquadapt software is projected to cut their electricity costs in the Moreno Valley area by over 15%.

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, Laurel, MD

WSSC is by far the largest utility Derceto has worked with to date and is one of the 10 largest utilities in the USA, servicing over 1.6 million people. Aquadapt software has been installed to control over 80 pumps, 25 pressure reducing valves and two huge water filtration plants, currently producing an average of 167 million gallons of drinking water per day! Their annual energy bill tops $7.1million and their Aquadapt system is projected to cut this cost by over $600,000 per year.

Aquadapt installed at Water District No.1 of Johnson County, Kansas

WaterOne office

Water District No.1 of Johnson County, KS, is known as WaterOne (www.waterone.org).  This implementation of Aquadapt controls pumping schedules for the entire water distribution process, from source to household. Aquadapt software was implemented to not only produce the most energy efficient pumping schedule from a water treatment plant (WTP), but also to recommend pumping schedules from the rivers to the WTP, enabling operators to use alternative sources of water to supply demand and exploit the differences in tariffs between providers. By using Aquadapt software WaterOne saved almost one fifth of its annual $5 million energy bill. And this is despite its bulk storage being almost exclusively ground water repump stations meaning we could not rely on elevated storage to provide pressure when pumps were off. Pay back for their Aquadapt system took just over one year.

Maroochy beach in Queensland

Maroochy Water Services in the beautiful seaside City of Maroochydore is located on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. The key driver for this project was to smooth the flows from the two large gravity supplied water treatment plants. Distribution to 12 flow control stations is under gravity flows with an additional eight booster pump stations supplying higher zones.

East Bay Municipal Utility District, Oakland, CA

EBMUD Offices

EBMUD was Derceto's first major implementation in North America. Derceto was awarded the contract in October 2003 and a Detailed Design study was completed by December 2003. Implementation began in late July 2004 over a pilot area of EBMUD's system. The area under Aquadapt software control is 20% of their entire system, but represents 35% of their annual electricity costs.

During three years of operation, Aquadapt software has saved EBMUD 12.7% of its electricity costs, equalling over $1.1M. Post-implementation analysis has also shown that the Aquadapt system has also improved efficiency; using 6.1% less kWh to pump the same volume of water. Aquadapt software does this by automatically taking into account all the hydraulics, looking at all other pump stations, the impact on pipeline and zone pressures and then choosing the most efficient time to run.

Greater Wellington Water, Wellington, New Zealand

The first full installation of Aquadapt software was in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. This major project controls water distribution into all of Lower Hutt and about half of Wellington City. The implementation of Aquadapt software has required a major expansion in capabilities as it needed to handle multiple parallel plants. Aquadapt software now schedules reservoir pump times and plant flow rates to achieve the lowest overall cost solution using online and real time data. The Aquadapt system computes literally thousands of possible scenarios per second to take into account varying demand, capacity and cost information and presents the pump schedules in a clearly readable format.

In February 2008 GWW contracted Derceto Ltd to replace their version 3.0 software with version 5.5 for the existing system as well as roll-out Aquadapt 5.5 to the remaing 2/3rds of the distribution network
