Optimizing Holistically to Maximize Savings
Simon Bunn (CTO, Derceto) presented a paper at AWWA ACE 2010 on the benefits of using a global holistic optimizer to maximize savings in distributing treated water. Examples of changes to energy tariffs, restrictions on use of water sources and the introduction of real-time energy pricing were used to demonstrate how the Aquadapt software automatically seeks lowest cost by switching from chasing low tariff periods to targeting maximum energy efficiency to retain savings in a changing environment.

The Impact of Pump Wear on Energy Efficiency
Simon Bunn (CTO, Derceto) presented a paper at AWWA ACE 2010 on empirical evidence gathered on the impact of pump wear on pump curves and particularly pump energy efficiency. This includes some results for variable speed pumps and a look at parallel pump operation with regard to maximizing efficiency.

ABOUT SIMON BUNN –
CHIEF TECHNICAL OFFICER
After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) Simon spent the next 21 years in control systems design, rising to become a partner in The Beca Group in 1999. In 2000 Simon used his experience of control systems and water treatment processes to design the complex software at the heart of the Aquadapt product, the world’s first commercially available real-time pump scheduling optimizer.
